DIC FORUM joins hands with academician Ouyang Zhongcan to decrypt the future of display
Academician Ouyang Zhongcan was born in Quanzhou, Fujian in 1946. He is a theoretical physicist, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1997), Academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences (2003), International Fellow of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (2015), Editor-in-Chief of Acta Physica Sinica and Chinese Phys B, Former Director of the Chinese Physical Society LCB. He graduated from the Department of Automation of Tsinghua University in 1968, and received his Ph.D. (nonlinear optical theory of liquid crystal) in 1984. From 1987 to 1988, as a Humboldt Scholar, at the Free University of Berlin, Germany, he studied the theory of liquid crystal fluid film under Professor W. Helfrich, the inventor of twisted liquid crystal display. He won the first Achievement in Asia Award of the Overseas Chinese Physics Association in 1993, and won the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in 2004.
Academician Ouyang Zhongcan delivered a speech at DIC 2019
Recently, Academician Ouyang Zhongcan affirmed the development of China’s display industry in an exclusive interview with Xinhuanet. He said: “Data from China Optics and Optoelectronics Manufactures Association Liquid Crystal Branch shows that the output value of Chinese mainland’s display industry in the first quarter of this year fell by about 2% year-on-year. The loss is much smaller than that of overseas enterprises, which means that Chinese enterprises have a strong ability to resist risks. With the joint efforts of Chinese entrepreneurs, technicians, and the government, China's display technology has developed simultaneously with the world. LCD technology has surpassed foreign counterparts. In two years, China's flexible OLED screen output is expected to keep up. Like LCD technology, China's AMOLED display technology is also showing a development trend of the later comers surpassing the formers.
Under the current circumstances, enterprises should maintain strategic focus, give full play to their comparative advantages, continue maintaining the necessary R&D investment, and promote the industrialization of PrintOLED, MicroLED and other technologies. The government should continue supporting the display industry to grow bigger and stronger, focus on cultivating leading and key enterprises to stabilize market competition position, strengthen the integration process of industry-education-research-application, and strive to break through the transformation and upgrading of the already-founded display iteration technology in China. "
Academician Ouyang Zhongcan will share his insights on the display industry at this DIC FORUM and strengthen the confidence of the industry. Academician Ouyang Zhongcan has participated in the DIC Forum hosted by CODA and Nikkei BP for many times, and accompanied the display industry's growth. In the previous DIC Forum, he has delivered the keynote speech of “Strengthening Basic Research and Promoting the Rapid Development of the New Display Industry”, discussed the development of China’s LCD, shared his views on the development of flat panel displays, affirmed the scale of China’s production capacity of display panels (ranking second in the world), reviewed the achievements of Chinese display enterprises in the field of new displays, delivered the keynote speech of “The 50th Anniversary of the Invention of LCD and the Review of the Development Process of China’s LCD Industry”, pointed out the rapid development of China’s display industry and high-tech applications were everywhere...
Together with DIC FORUM, “Work Together for a Win-win Future”
In the critical decade of the rapid development of the global display industry, China Optics and Optoelectronics Manufactures Association Liquid Crystal Branch and the Nikkei BP have jointly hosted Display Innovation China (DIC) Forum for 10 times. Accompanying the display industry to grow and surpassing continuously, it has become the largest-scale and highest-standard benchmarking business forum in the industry. It has established a communication platform for the Chinese display industry and counterparts around the world, and has played an important role in promoting technology and application innovation in the global display industry.
Looking back to 2019, global display production capacity was gradually released, terminal innovative applications such as wearable devices, automobile displays, public displays, VR/AR, etc. continued to emerge, and display technology was continuously and deeply integrated with cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence, etc. The global display device prices began to rebound in the second half of the year, and the industry continued to invest against the trend. The development of TFT-LCD iterative technologies such as AMOLED, QLED, Micro-LED, etc. attracted attention. Some display material and equipment enterprises accelerated mergers and acquisitions or integration, and continued to enhance industrial competitiveness.
Just as the global display industry focuses on innovation and development, and continues to make unremitting efforts for the transformation and upgrading of the entire industry, unexpected storms come suddenly. The Covid-19 epidemic in 2020 brings a broad and profound impact on the global economy, including the display industry. Especially, when China’s epidemic prevention and control has improved, the epidemic in Japan and South Korea, which are the main clusters of the global display industry, unfortunately has worsened. This will inevitably affect the development of the global display industry and affects the entire display industry chain. This will further increase the uncertainty of the development of the global display industry. Therefore, the market price, supply and demand, and corporate profitability of the global display industry will all be challenged.
To this end, CODA actively responds to the epidemic and cares about the industry development. CODA will continue to play its role as a bridge and link, and build a platform to promote exchanges and cooperation in the global display industry. With the purpose of “Cooperation, Innovation, and Development”, and the theme of “Work Together for a Win-win Future”, CODA will join hands with well-known industry associations at home and abroad, world-renowned experts and scholars, global major panel manufacturers, important equipment and material supporting manufacturers, and new display technology innovation enterprises, etc. to gather together and hold the DIC Forum in Shanghai.
DIC FORUM moves to Shanghai and links DIC EXPO for the first time to create an annual event for the display industry
During the same period, DIC EXPO, the only exhibition hosted by CODA, will be held in Hall 4.1 of National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from July 22 to 24, 2020. The purpose of DIC EXPO is to use display as a link to cover the entire industrial chain of upstream, midstream and downstream in the new display industry. During the same period, various sub-themed exhibitions will blossom to attract enterprises from all links of the industry chain to enter the exhibition and help the industry to integrate resources.
The Terminal Consumer Electronics Display Application Exhibition will bring together technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, automotive, AR/VR, and AIoT, etc. and it will be a global stage for demonstrating cutting-edge innovative technology applications in various fields; the Smart Commercial Display Innovation Application Exhibition will demonstrate the most cutting-edge display and touch industries and technologies in application fields such as vehicles, homes, education, entertainment, medical care, etc.; the Display Materials and Professional Equipment Exhibition will gather together the display material industry chain in electronic display, semiconductor, optoelectronics, touch control, information, consumer electronics, medical care, new energy, automotive and other fields; Shanghai International Adhesive Tape & High-Function Film Exhibition will focus on demonstrating adhesive products and functional film materials and equipment widely used in optoelectronics, displays, touch screens, mobile phones, TVs, automobiles, medical care, new energy, smart wearables, etc.
